How to approach the August 6, 2026 Connections

Look first for a precise set of four rather than a broad category that catches five or six words. Overlap is intentional: a word that fits an obvious group may belong to a more specific one elsewhere.

Solved groups lock in place. Yellow is conventionally the most direct category, followed by green and blue, while purple often depends on wordplay, shared prefixes, or phrases.

How NYT Connections works

Connections presents sixteen words that must be divided into four groups of four. Each group shares one exact connection, and the puzzle allows four mistakes before the remaining solution is shown.

Use the progressive reveals above when one category blocks the rest. Revealing a single correct group still leaves most of the puzzle available to solve yourself.
